PITTSBURG, Kan. – Fort Hays State men’s track and field turned in a solid performance at the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 28).

Decano Cronin set a new school record in the 600-yard run in a time of 1:11.57. It broke a long-standing mark of 1:13.0 set by both Dennis Kozub (1972) and Mike Hullman (1977).

Kolt Newell upped his provisional mark in the high jump with an effort of 6 feet, 9.5 inches, which places him inside the top 15 nationally on the performance list. He finished fifth in the event.

Brett Meyer took second place for the Tigers in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.05. It’s a provisional mark but did not top his best effort from earlier in the year of 1:52.54. Dillando Allotey ran a provisional time in the 200 meters, but the 21.80 seconds effort was also just shy of his best of the season. Sam Dreiling cleared a provisional height in the pole vault at 15 feet, 7.25 inches, but his best effort of the season is four inches higher.
