FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer will find out if they have done enough to get into the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth consecutive year on Monday night (Nov. 9) during the NCAA Men’s Soccer Selection Show on NCAA.com at 5 pm Central Time. The Tigers finished their season at 12-5-1 overall with a 1-0 win over Lindenwood on Sunday, securing 12 wins in the regular season for the first time in program history.

The selection show can be viewed here, NCAA Division II Soccer Selection Show

This is just the second time in program history that the Tigers have reached 12 wins in a season. They had 12 in 2013, but the 12th win came in the MIAA Tournament following the regular season.

Fort Hays State was No. 1 in the latest edition of the NCAA Central Region Rankings, released last week. The top two teams in the region will be selected for the NCAA Tournament, where they will meet each other in the Central Region Final (Round of 16). Here is how the rankings looked going into the final week of play.

RANK SCHOOL IN-REGION RECORD DII RECORD
1 Fort Hays State 11-4-1 11-4-1
2 Upper Iowa 8-2 11-3-1
3 Northeastern State 11-6 11-6
4 Lindenwood (Mo.) 8-6-2 8-6-2

Fort Hays State lost at home to Upper Iowa, 1-0, on Friday night, but bounced back on Sunday to pick up a crucial win over Lindenwood by the same score. Selections to the tournament are not based solely on records. There are several other factors such as strength of schedule, results against like opponents, head-to-head competition, etc. Fort Hays State, Upper Iowa, and Northeastern State have all had great seasons, but, unfortunately, one will be left home.

Sound Off!
