Javelin throwers shine again at KT Woodman as Lopez tops field

Fort Hays State’s women’s javelin throwers shined once again, taking three of the top four placings at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan., hosted by Wichita State University (Apr. 10-11). Estefania Lopez won with a throw of 166-feet, 1-inch, hitting the automatic qualifying standard for the second-straight week.
Lopez’s throw was still about three and a half feet short of the nation’s top distance that she threw last week at the State Farm ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan. She topped a field of 27 competitors on Friday. Madison Wolf also owns an automatic qualifying mark this year with a throw over 160 feet, but she was a little short of that on Friday with a throw of 157-feet, 11-inches to finish second behind Lopez.

Megan Honas improved on her provisional mark, finishing fourth in the event. Her throw of 144-feet, 7-inches moved her to 13th on the national performance list.

The three javelin throwers were the only women on the team to reach provisional qualifying standards at the meet. Lopez and Wolf were the only top-three finishers for the women. Several members of the team competed at the meet. Click on the results link above for complete results.
