Fort Hays State University Jazz Bands to Perform Thursday Night

Thursday night at 7:30  the Fort Hays State University jazz bands will perform in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center on the FHSU Campus.

The first performance of the FHSU jazz bands this season is set for tomorrow night with the 1st  and 2nd jazz bands performing several pieces each. Jazz 2 will open the concert with an arrangement of “That Old Black Magic,” by Billy May. A tune titled “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” later in Jazz 2’s portion of the concert will feature vocals by Rachel Rayner. Jazz 2 will close its portion of the concert with an upbeat tune titled “Wheels” by Les Hooper.

Jazz 1 will play a variety of tunes in their portion of the concert ranging from latin tunes like “La Suerte de los Tantos,” featuring french horns and timpani drums. To funky tunes like “Sax Alley,” a tune that will feature Brian Keller on tenor sax and Matt Rome on alto sax.

“I expect both bands to play well and live up to their potential,” said Brad Dawson, Director of the Jazz Bands. “Jazz 1 is performing at a high level, and Jazz 2 is performing well.”
