The Fort Hays State football program will be hosting three camps throughout the month of June, offering opportunities for young student-athletes to get individual instruction as well as team work on the techniques and the fundamentals of football.
The first two camps are 11-man team camps running June 8-10 and an 8-man team camp running from June 15-17. The camps are available to any 11-man or 8-man high school teams and their coaching staffs. Overnight campers will stay in the student dormitories on campus and each team’s coaching staff will be staying in the dorms with the campers each night.
The cost for overnight campers that need to rent a helmet or shoulder pads is $185. For any overnight campers that have their own equipment, the cost is $170. The costs for overnight campers include well-balanced, generous meals served up by the campus dining facilities. Overnight campers are advised to bring their own bedding and personal care items.
For any commuter campers, not staying in the student dormitories needing to rent a helmet or shoulder pads, the cost will be $140. For those not needing equipment, the cost will run $125 plus $8 per meal if the camper does not bring their own food.
A $50 non-refundable deposit is due with the application and the tuition balance is due upon registration. Each camper must provide a signed copy of their 2013, 2014 physical form along with the registration form. Check in time for both camps begin at 9 a.m. on the first day of camp.
The final camp of the summer is an individual skills camp hosted by the entire FHSU football coaching staff.
The camp is for any youth football players looking for special attention on the techniques and fundamentals of their specific positions.
The camp offers offensive line instruction on how to properly run block and pass block. Receivers and tight ends will work on their catching and ball control skills as well as route running fundamentals and pass coverage concepts by defenses. Running backs will work on their footwork and ball security and also cover the basics of pass blocking.
The defensive line players, linebackers, and secondary defenders will work on tackling, pass coverage and footwork. All campers will learn these techniques and more during the one day camp. Campers will also have an opportunity to have their 40-yard-dash, pro-agility, broad jump, height and weight and vertical jump all tested and recorded.
The camp fee is $50 if pre-registered by June 7 or $60 after. Any campers that need equipment will be charged $15 to rent helmets and shoulder pads.
