Individual Softball Players Receive Honors

Eight Tigers earned their way onto All-MIAA teams this postseason with one first team selection in catcher Callie Wright, Topeka senior and one second team selection in Paxton Duran, Brighton, Colo. sophomore. Earning honorable mention honors were; Bianca Adame, El Paso, Texas senior, Danie Brinkmann, Foristell, Mo. senior, Courtney Dobson, Broken Arrow, Okla. sophomore, Kellsi Olsen, Wickenburg, Ariz. senior, Amanda Vaupel, Olathe junior and Samantha Villarreal, Loveland, Colo. freshman.

Wright, grabbed her second All-MIAA honor of her career after being offensively productive for Fort Hays with a team-high .528 slugging percentage. Wright hit two extra-inning home runs this year and in a span of two seasons has caught two perfect games and eight no-hitters.

Duran earned her first career All-MIAA honors after going 17-9 this season and posting a 3.20 ERA in 31 appearances at the circle. The sophomore was the go-to throughout the regular season throwing a team-high 153.1 innings.

The Lady Tigers had three infielders receive an honorable mention from the MIAA and each were crucial to the success of the season. Brinkmann made her way to the bases more times than any other Tiger in the regular season with 22 walks and a .409 on base percentage. Brinkmann also broke the school career walk record with 76 free bases in her three seasons.

Dobson lead the Tigers this season in batting average with .350, with one home run and seven doubles. The infielder played exceptional defense with 94 assists and a .967 fielding percentage.

Olsen had 104 assists and 72 put outs in the infield this season to accompany her three home runs and six doubles. This is the second straight honorable mention for the senior infielder.

Adame was the lead-off hitter and starting outfielder for the Tigers this season and was the squad speedster stealing 27 bases and hitting five triples. Adame holds the Fort Hays State record for stolen bases getting the theft 67 out of 74 tries.

Centerfielder Vaupel was tied for doubles on the team with 10. The Olathe native hit .284 for the year and had four multi-RBI games this season.

Rounding out the honorable mentions is Villarreal, the only freshman on the list. The infielder did a little bit of everything for the Lady Tigers appearing in 40 games and hitting four home runs for a .287 average.

The Lady Tigers finished the year 29-20 overall but went 17-9 in a tough MIAA conference. By winning percentage, this is the sixth-best season in FHSU history.
