SGA President Roberts goes on indefinite leave

Below is the text of the Executive Report SGA President Chris Roberts gave at the final meeting of the Fort Hays State Student Government Association, announcing his decision to go on indefinite leave.

Over this past week I have had time to contemplate the future direction of SGA, and also my personal life. You are all aware of the events that have occurred over the past weeks, and I apologize for any unintentional attention that I have brought to the association. The decisions I make in my personal life are my own.

Unfortunately, my attorney has advised me to not to discuss details or else he will not be able to continue representing me. The ultimate goal for attending a University is to earn a degree. I have had to weigh whether the distractions have had a negative impact on this goal.

After much thought, I have decided the best option moving forward for myself, SGA, and the students, is to remain in office. However, to take the necessary steps to insure the personal well-being is up to par to continue as president I will be taking an indefinite leave of absence at the beginning my next term until the fall semester. In the fall, I will meet with Vice President elect Powers and the interim executive staff to determine if I am fit to resume my administrative duties.

Due to my personal matters, I have taken it upon myself to utilize the Kelly Center for an evaluation to determine my next steps to ensure my personal well-being. The Kelly Center is an excellent resource for any student facing challenges in their academic and personal lives.

This decision comes after much discussion with students and senate members. The over-all feel from the students is one of understanding that I am a student first. As students, we are all still learning. Part of this process is realizing when you need to take a step back and fully analyze the situation. Resignation would be a decision that is too hasty at this time. I intend to let the necessary disciplinary procedures to play out.

I want to thank everyone who has given me support throughout the year.
