Lehman named MIAA player of the week

Kate Lehman, Newton junior, is having a standout year for the Fort Hays State University woman’s basketball team, averaging a double-double through the first 15 games of the season.

Lehman’s 15.8 points and 11.6 rebounds per game leads the team and has her ranked fifth and first in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, respectively.

The Lady Tigers completed a two-game road stretch against conference opponents in Okla. last week finishing 1-1. Lehman averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game during the two games earning MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors.

Lehman, the 6-foot-4 center, also added seven blocks over the two games. This brings her total to 81 for the season; this leads the NCAA Div. II. Her 11.6 rebounds per game ranks eighth and her 10 double-doubles this season is fourth in the country.

She also hit the 1,000 career point mark in just her junior season.
