Tigers on the Road again

After picking up there first three wins on the season all in a row, the Fort Hays State Tiger volleyball team (3-11,1-6 MIAA) is on the road for eight straight games, seeking their first road win on the season.

“I’m excited about what we got coming up here in the next couple weeks,” Head Coach Kurt Kohler said.

The road trip for the Tigers started started with a flat tire as the Tigers dropped the first games, one to Washburn and one to Emporia, only managing to win one set.

“Washburn has always been a fundamentally sound team, and White Auditorium (in Emporia), Fort Hays has always struggled for whatever reason,” Kohler said.

Coming into the match against Washburn Kohler had said-we needed to limit big runs and just compete all the way through.

The Tigers were swept in straight sets; 25-20, 25-21, 25-13, and saw runs like 8-1, 5-0,7-0,6-1,and 4-0 throughout the matches as the Tigers couldn’t keep with the Ichabods.

Fort Hays State University volleyball fell, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20), to Emporia State on Saturday in Emporia.

The rest of the road trip for the Tigers is a triangular in Oklahoma.  Fort Hays will face Northwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Senior Madison Schwartz leads Fort Hays offensively for the road thus far with 20 kills and freshman Haley Corkill has the highest hitting percentage at .533.

Defensively the Tigers are led by seniors Jenna Ulrich and Makenzie Weinman.  Ulrich continues to play in All-MIAA form of lately with 13 kills and Weinman had 37 digs.
