Tennis Wins Spring Opener Over Hastings

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Fort Hays State began the spring portion of its 2016-17 schedule on Saturday (Feb. 25) against Hastings College. Conditions outside forced the match to be played in Grand Island, Neb., indoors at the Grand Island Racquet Club. The Tigers moved to 6-2 overall on the season with an 8-1 win.

The Tigers swept doubles competition then won all but the No. 1 singles match to cruise against Hastings. Four of six Tigers limited their singles opponents to no more than one point in a set.

In doubles, Lauren Lindell and Natalie Lubbers teamed up to win 8-3 at the No. 1 position. Laura Jiminez-Lendinez and Macy Moyers edged their opponent 8-6 at the No. 2 position and Nicole Lubbers and Jessica Johnson teamed to win 8-2 at the No. 3 position.

Natalie Lubbers (No. 2), Lindell (No. 3), Moyers (No. 4), Nicole Lubbers (No. 5), and Haley Weidemann (No. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets. Nicole Lubbers completely shut out her opponent, while Lindell allowed just one point in her match.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 1) in Salina, Kansas against Kansas Wesleyan.
