Tigers Close Out Regular Season at Southwest Baptist Thursday

FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State wraps up the regular season on Thursday (Feb. 23) at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. The Tigers are currently in fifth place in the MIAA standings and a win would help their chances in securing at least a first-round home game for the MIAA Tournament. They also look for revenge after SBU won on a buzzer beater earlier this year in Hays. The Tigers enter at 16-10 overall, 10-8 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats are 14-12 overall, 7-10 in the MIAA.

The Tigers are looking for a third straight win in Bolivar. The Tigers won last year’s meeting there by a score of 83-66. Southwest Baptist hit a three-point field goal from the right wing in the final second earlier this year in Hays to defeat FHSU. Cartier Dean hit the game-winning shot.

Rob Davis regained his conference lead in scoring average by reaching at least 30 points for the eighth time this season on Tuesday night in a loss to Nebraska-Kearney. He is averaging 22.2 points per game. Davis is now just six points shy of 2,000 for his entire collegiate career, with 1,096 in his time at FHSU and 898 in his time at Pratt Community College for a total of 1,994.

Hadley Gillum has scored 20 or more points in three of the last five games, including a career-high 27 at Central Oklahoma last Saturday. He passed the 500-point mark for his career at FHSU on Tuesday against Nebraska-Kearney with 22 points. He now has 507 in his career.

Southwest Baptist enters Thursday on a two-game losing streak, falling in road games at Emporia State and Washburn last week. The Bearcats are led in scoring by Logan Hovey at 12.6 points per game.

The brackets for the MIAA Tournament will be officially released on Saturday evening upon completion of regular season games around the conference that afternoon.
