Tigers Look to Tie Bronchos in MIAA Standings Again Saturday

FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State faces the same scenario it did last Saturday, looking for a win to move into a tie for at least fourth place in the MIAA standings. The Tigers were successful the first time, and look for the same result Saturday (Feb. 18) in Edmond against Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 3:30 pm. Both teams enter at 15-9 overall, while UCO is 10-6 in the MIAA and FHSU is 9-7.

The Tigers defeated the Bronchos last Saturday in Hays by a score of 72-62. That pulled the Bronchos back into a tie for fourth place with the Tigers. But an FHSU loss on Thursday night at Northeastern State has put the Tigers in the same scenario for a second-straight week. The game is also important for keeping separation from teams sitting a game back of the Tigers in the standings on the eve of the final week of the regular season. Third through ninth place in the MIAA is only separated by two games as the majority of teams have just three games remaining on the schedule. FHSU is currently tied for fifth with Missouri Southern.

Rob Davis leads FHSU and the MIAA in scoring at 22.2 points per game. He had 25 points against the Bronchos in Hays last week. JaQuan Smith posted his third double-double of the season on Thursday night with 13 points and 13 rebounds at Northeastern State. Hadley Gillum led the Tigers in scoring on Thursday with 15 points and averages 12.2 points per game.

The Bronchos are coming off a win over Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday night, which pulled UNK into a tie with UCO for third in the conference standings. Josh Holliday leads the Bronchos in scoring at 12.9 points per game. He had 21 in the win over UNK on Thursday night. FHSU held him scoreless in Hays last Saturday.
