Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball looks to level the season series with Emporia State on Wednesday evening (Feb. 1) in Emporia, Kan. Emporia State (10-10, 6-5 MIAA) claimed the first meeting with FHSU (11-8, 5-6 MIAA) in Hays back in December. The Tigers are in search of their 99th win all-time against the Hornets.

Fort Hays State has won the last four meetings with Emporia State in Emporia, despite ESU taking the last two meetings between the teams in Hays. The teams have not met in Emporia since the 2014-15 season as last year there was just one meeting with ESU winning in Hays. The Hornets won the first meeting this year in Hays by a score of 75-67. Two of the four consecutive wins for FHSU in Emporia went to overtime.

The Tigers look to level their conference record before heading to Topeka Saturday for a game with Washburn that will be carried nationwide on ESPN3.

Rob Davis was the only Tiger to score in double figures against the Hornets earlier this year with 32 points. He continues to lead the MIAA in scoring at 22.7 points per game, despite being held to a season-low seven points back on Saturday against Lindenwood in Hays. Davis is closing in on the 1,000-point mark for his career at FHSU, now with 949.

With 17 points against Lindenwood, Hadley Gillum snapped a three game streak of not reaching double figures. He is the second-leading scorer on the team at 12.2 points per game. Trey O’Neil has upped his scoring production of late with 50 points in the last four games, averaging 12.5 per game in the stretch. He reached double figures in all four games after accomplishing the feat just twice in the first 15 games of the season.

In the first meeting of the season, Emporia State hit a season-high 14 3-point field goals and shot a blistering 51.9 percent beyond the arc. Brandon Hall led the Hornets with 18 points in that game. Five ESU players hit two or more 3-pointers in that game. Hall leads the Hornets in scoring for the season at 13.5 points per game.
