FHSU Sports Information Department

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team will hit the floor for its final tune-up before the holiday break Monday evening when they host Midland University inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. First tip between the Tigers and Warriors is set for 6 p.m. The game will count towards the standings for Fort Hays State but will be treated as an exhibition for the visitors.

The Tigers and Warriors enter the contest with matching three-game winning streaks. Fort Hays State is 9-2 overall, while Midland carries a 9-4 record to date.

It is the sixth meeting all-time between the programs, and the first since Fort Hays State joined NCAA Division II. Midland won all five previous contests in the series. It is the second-most games against a single opponent without a win in FHSU history (10, Phillips University). This will be the first time Midland has traveled to Hays for a game against FHSU, with three of the previous matchups coming at neutral sites and the other two at Midland in Fremont, Neb.

Jill Faxon leads the Tigers in scoring, bumping up her scoring average to 11.4 points per game after a 20-point outburst last week against Tabor. The senior finished that contest with 999 career points and will become the 18th member of the 1,000-point club at FHSU with her first made basket in Monday’s contest.

Tatyana Legette grabs a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game, good for eighth in the conference. Nikola Kacperska leads the squad in both assists (34) and steals (21). Emma Stroyan climbed to fifth in the national rankings after swatting five shots against Tabor, bringing her season total to 29 blocks.

The Warriors are led offensively by a pair of juniors, Megan Kucks and Joelle Overkamp. Overkamp scores nearly 15 points each night while grabbing a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game. Kucks adds 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and almost three assists per contest.
