FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State women’s soccer players Hannah Smith and Baylie Schmitz were to the NCAA Division II All-Central Region team, selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Smith was granted first team honors by the NSCAA, while Schmitz was selected to the second team. This is the second All-Region selected for both Smith and Schmitz this season as the duo claimed D2CAA All-Central Region Second Team honors earlier this month.

Smith was named to the All-MIAA First Team earlier this season and earned MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Smith started all 23 matches for FHSU, producing four goals and two assists for 10 points. This is the third All-Region selection for Smith’s career after adding another NSCAA All-Region honor from 2014 to her two selections this year.

Schmitz was named to the All-MIAA First Team earlier this season as well after anchoring one of the best defenses in the Central Region. She started all 23 matches and played 1,880 minutes, helping the team to 12 shutouts this year and just a 0.65 goals against average.

In addition to Smith and Schmitz, 12 other MIAA women’s soccer players were also named NSCAA All-Central Region performers.
