SGA Meeting Recap – November 17th

Reporting for TMN News, I’m Shannon Mahon.

The executive report, members of the Student Government Association can now add amendments for future bills as well as appeals. Director of Legislative Affairs Hersch and President Brandt went to the Kansas Board of Regents to better clarify the definition of conceal and carry in relevance to students as well as faculty on the Fort Hays State University campus.

Students Advisory Committee reports that FHSU can now provide health insurance to graduate  students. The SGA is also on social media now. Their Twitter is @fhsusga and their Snapchat is also @fhsusga. The committee is also trying to get the Leadership 310 team to help make  a browsing fair for landlords about properties for sale in Hays. This will be known as Ralphie’s List, which is a list of properties and landlords in Hays. SGA also plans to give away playing cards for their “Party Smart” packs to encourage students to be safe wherever they go.

Allocations report, there is a budget that is compromised by funds collected by student fees.

Any person or organization can apply. Allocations will fund larger projects like beneficial trips, any request under $1500. It’s changing the way the process works. It’ll be linked to the SGA website this Monday to explore the options. They can input organization information so they can be easily tracked. They have two types of requests. Preliminary and final requests. Both must be approved in order to get funding. Preliminary requests are due December 5th. Final requests are due Feb 3rd.
