FHSU Women Now 6-0 with 97-61 Win Over Sterling

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State moved to 6-0 overall with a 97-61 win over Sterling College on Saturday evening (Nov. 26). This was the final tune-up before the Tigers open MIAA play on the road next week.

Fort Hays State had five players finish in double figures scoring, led by Jill Faxon with a near double-double of 19 points and nine rebounds. Tatyana Legette added a career-high 18. Nikola Kacperska finished with 14, while Kacey Kennett and Taylor Rolfs each had 11. Carly Heim and Kennett tied with a team-high four assists.

The Tigers trailed briefly early before going on a 17-2 run to take a 12-point lead at the 3:06 mark of the first quarter. The lead grew as large as 20 in the second quarter before settling at 18 points by halftime, 53-35. The lead reached 30 in the third quarter at the 3:50 mark before Sterling closed the quarter on a 12-3 run to get the lead back to 21. The 36-point final margin was the largest lead of the game for FHSU.

The Tigers shot 50.7 percent from the field and made 11 3-point field goals. Sterling finished at 41.8 percent from the field and was a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line. The Tigers outrebounded the Warriors 43-31 and forced 24 turnovers out of Sterling, while turning the ball over 11 times. FHSU had 16 steals overall.

Hailey Davis led the Warriors with 18 points, while Jordan Greer added 17 and Tara Proffitt had 10.

Fort Hays State opens MIAA play on Thursday night (Dec. 1) at Missouri Southern. Game time is set for 5:30 pm in Joplin.
