FHSU Women Move to No. 2 in NCAA Central Region Rankings

FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

Fort Hays State women’s soccer has moved into position for a chance to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, jumping to No. 2 in the latest release of the NCAA Central Region Rankings on Wednesday (Nov. 2).

The Tigers have been steady climbers in the region rankings, going from No. 5 in the first edition of the rankings to No. 3 last week and now No. 2 this week. Fort Hays State’s success against teams inside the top eight of the region rankings is carrying significant weight. The Tigers have wins over the No. 3, 5, 7, and 8 teams in the region, holding a record of 4-1 against region ranked teams. FHSU hosts the No. 7 ranked team in the region, Missouri Western, in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament Wednesday night.

The Tigers jumped Minot State this week for the No. 2 position, a team it defeated head-to-head earlier in the season. Minot State is the top seeded team in the NSIC Tournament. The top two ranked teams in the region host the opening and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, Nov. 10-13. Conference tournament play will most likely determine whether the Tigers hold on to their current ranking or if Minot State takes it back.

Below are the NCAA Central Region Rankings for November 2, 2016.
