Western Train Show Ends It’s Nine Year Run

Reporting for TMN News, I’m Shannon Mahon.

The Western Train Show is in town at the Ellis County Fairgrounds and has been run by the Keeler family for nine consecutive years. It is the last ever train show that Hays is going to have. Here’s more on how the train show got started from Adam Keeler,

“How the model train show started was through my brother. He grew up in Western Kansas. He was a dealer of model trains for several years. He acquired male breast cancer and passed away two and a half years ago. After he passed away we’ve been able to keep the train show going for three years through our entire Keeler family. My grandfather was a first generation railroader and we’ve been able to keep the tradition of having a train show, but unfortunately this will be the last one.”

Adam’s wife, Sarah Keeler assists with the train show too.

“So this is all my husband’s brother’s train stuff that he had sold at the train shows. What we do is we have train clubs come and they put out their layouts.”

A variety of clubs from Wichita, Dodge City, and Pratt Kansas are prominently displayed at the train show. Some manufacture train products, while others build train sets, and some build the terrain.

Spring Creek Crossing is the main manufacturer of the Western Kansas train Show. They sell trains, train accessories, and believe that having a passion for trains is important. Also at this train show is Dugan Frank from Senior Solutions having scenery demos on how to make terrain along with other train enthusiasts displaying their special talents.

Come enjoy some model trains and model train accessories for a limited time only on October 16th from 11am to 4pm. Admission is five dollars at the Ellis Country Fairgrounds which is located at 1344 Fairground Rd, Hays, KS 67601.
