Women’s Soccer Hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State For Home Opener Sunday

FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team looks to remain unbeaten on Sunday (Sept. 11) taking on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1 pm in Hays for the first home match of 2016. The Tigers enter with their best start in school history, 3-0 overall so far. The Rangers are 0-2 overall and play at Washburn Friday before making the trip to Hays.

The defense has been the team’s bread and butter this season. So far the Tiger defense has allowed just four shots on goal this season, which has made life easy for goalkeeper Abbie Flax who has posted two shutouts already in her three wins. CheyAnn Queener was named MIAA Co-Defender of the Week for her efforts in Fort Hays State’s three wins to open the season, anchoring the tough defense by playing every minute of all matches.

On the offensive end, Eden Stoddard has been red hot as she leads the Tigers with four goals. Kelsey Steffens and Hannah Smith have chipped in a goal and assist each, while Vianei Sanchez and Dani Harris have each found the back of the net this season.

The Rangers have struggled getting on the board this season as they have yet to record a goal on 14 shots.
