Tiger Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award; Reaches “Dig Pink” Fundraising Goal

FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fort Hays State Volleyball earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season. It was the second straight year the team earned this honor. Fort Hays State was one of 119 women’s programs at the NCAA Division II level to earn the award.

The award honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average. The Tigers finished with a team GPA of 3.33 for this past academic year. Fort Hays State was one of seven schools from the MIAA to earn the distinction, which also included Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Emporia State, Missouri Southern, Missouri Western, and Northwest Missouri State.

Fort Hays State was one of just 19 teams at the NCAA Division II level and the only one in the MIAA that earned both the AVCA Team Academic Award and the AVCA Dig Pink Fundraising Goal. The Dig Pink Rally is The Side-Out Foundation’s October event that brings together volleyball players across the nation to raise funds for breast cancer research, demonstrate the power of teamwork, and show support for people with cancer.

The annual Pass, Set, Pink Volleyball Event at FHSU was a success once again in 2015 as Tiger Volleyball raised $3,272. The money raised went to the Pink Scholarship, established by Tiger Volleyball to benefit an FHSU student who has been affected by cancer.
