Tigers Head to Kearney Tuesday; Game Time Moves Up to 4:30 PM

Fort Hays State heads to Kearney, Neb., for a mid-week MIAA matchup against Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday (Apr. 19) at 4:30 pm. This will be the second contest of the year between the Tigers and the Lopers. UNK took the first by the score of 11-3 last Wednesday (Apr. 13) in Hays. Fort Hays State will enters at 17-22 overall with an MIAA record of 7-13, while Nebraska-Kearney enters at 16-21 overall record and 13-15 in the MIAA.

UNK is led by the offensive threats of Kyle Honeycutt and Shane Sharkey. Honeycutt currently leads the team with a .358 batting average and sits second on the team with 35 RBI. Sharkey has a .356 batting average, but leads the team in hits with 52, and doubles with 11. In the first game between the two teams, Honeycutt and Sharkey went a combined 4-for-7 with three runs scored.

The Tiger offense has been led all season long by Austin Unrein, Alex Weiss, and Connor Ross. The three sit second, third, and fifth respectively in hits in the MIAA, while Unrein also finds himself tied for fifth in the conference in doubles with 13. In addition, Nick Hammeke’s bat has been red hot of late as he currently owns a 13-game hitting streak, the longest for any Tiger this season. During the streak, Hammeke is batting .444 (20-for-45) and has chipped in 16 RBI.
