Tigers Host Nebraska-Kearney in Mid-Week MIAA Contest Wednesday

FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State welcomes Nebraska-Kearney to town for a mid-week MIAA contest on Wednesday (Apr. 13). The Tigers enter the Wednesday game 17-18 overall and 11-13 in the MIAA while the Lopers come to Hays at 13-20 overall and 10-14 in the MIAA.

Offense has been key to the Tiger success as they have some of the most lethal bats in the MIAA. Austin Unrein (58), Alex Weiss (54), and Connor Ross (53) currently sit second, fifth, and seventh respectively in hits in the conference, while Unrein finds himself tenth in RBI with 38. Of the 11 players that have started 10 or more games for the Tigers, seven are hitting above .300 this season, and not a single one has an average below .258.

As a team the Lopers are hitting an even .300 this season and like the Tigers gain most of their success at the plate. When scoring more than five runs this season, the Lopers have an overall record of 11-8, compared to just a 2-12 record when they fail to do so. Leading the way for UNK is Kyle Honeycutt batting .356, with 31 runs, 28 RBI, and six home runs.

First pitch is set for 6 pm at Larks Park.
