Tennis Rolls to MIAA Win at Lincoln With a 7-0 Shutout

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Tennis rolled to its first MIAA win of the season by shutting out Lincoln University on Friday (Apr. 1) by a score of 7-0. The Tigers were on their way to a 9-0 win in the match, but two singles matches the Tigers were leading handily were not finished due to rain. FHSU moved to 7-7 overall and 1-3 in the MIAA.

In doubles play, the Tigers surrendered only one point. The No. 1 team of Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Jessica Johnson won 8-1 while the No. 2 team of Alina Villalovos and Raven Dick and No. 3 team of Haley Weidemann and Taylor Noel posted shutouts of 8-0.

In singles action, the Tigers took every match in straight sets. Jimenez-Lendinez won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0, and Johnson won at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1. Taylor Noel (No. 5) and Jaclyn Woods (No. 6) blanked their opponents in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The other two matches were unfinished due to rain. At No. 3, Villalovos led 6-1, 3-1, and at No. 4 Dick led 6-0, 4-1.

The Tigers head to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist on Saturday morning at 10 am in another MIAA match.
