Tiger Baseball Looks to Snap Losing Skid at Washburn Today

Fort Hays State looks to get back on track when they head to Topeka on Tuesday (Mar. 22) to take on Washburn at 4 pm. They Tigers have struggled of late, dropping eight of their last 10 games, and head into the mid-week matchup with an overall record of 9-14 and an MIAA mark of 3-9. The Ichabods sit just over .500 this season, with a 12-10 overall record, and a conference record of 7-5.

When the Tiger offense is clicking this season, they are among the best in the conference. As a team Fort Hays State currently sits third in hits (259), fifth in batting average (.311), and has grounded into the third-fewest double plays (8) in the MIAA this season.

The potent Tiger offense is led by third baseman Alex Weiss. Weiss currently leads the Tigers in batting average (.444), hits (40), slugging percentage (.600), and on-base percentage (.505). Accompanying Weiss among the team’s best is Austin Unrein who sits second on the team in batting average (.386), hits (39), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.574), and leads the team in doubles (7).

The Ichabods do not stand out in any particular aspect of the game, but they play quality baseball on all fronts. As a team, Washburn is hitting .285 this year and has a combined ERA of 5.17. Riley Crane is a spark at the top of the lineup for the Ichabods, currently tied for second in the MIAA with three triples.
