FHSU Women Play Winona State Friday to Open NCAA Tournament

Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball opens NCAA Tournament play on Friday (Mar. 11) against Winona State. Game time is set for 12 pm from John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan. The Tigers are the No. 5 seed in the regional, while the Warriors are the No. 4 seed.

Tigers are ranked No. 16 in the latest WBCA Division II National Poll, while Winona State is ranked No. 7 in the nation. The Central Regional is so stacked that six of the eight teams are inside the top 20 of the national rankings and the other two are receiving votes. At least two top 20 teams will not advance past opening round play on Friday.

Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball is making consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Last year, the Tigers earned the No. 1 seed in the Central Region, hosted the regional tournament, and made it to the regional final (round of 16). Pittsburg State plays host to the regional this year as the No. 2 seed, since No. 1 seed Emporia State is unable to host due to its home arena hosting the state high school basketball tournament.

Fort Hays State enters the game at 25-5 overall, while Winona State enters at 29-3 overall. Winona State was the regular season champion of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
