No. 1 Ranked FHSU Women Host Missouri Southern Monday

FHSU Sports Information Department

Top-ranked Fort Hays State engages in another key MIAA battle on Monday night when it hosts Missouri Southern at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm. The Tigers enter at 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA while Missouri Southern enters at 9-4 overall and 3-4 in the MIAA.

The Tigers picked up a key win over a tough Pittsburg State team on Saturday afternoon by a score of 77-57. The Gorillas are receiving votes in the latest national poll, so the Tigers bounced back well after a loss at Southwest Baptist on the road before the holiday break. The Tigers need to carry that momentum into Monday against a scrappy Missouri Southern squad that has played several of the top MIAA teams tough so far this year.

Missouri Southern is coming off a loss at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. Missouri Southern knocked off No. 3 ranked Emporia State prior to the holiday break and played undefeated Missouri Western within two points on the road. Fort Hays State and Missouri Southern are the top two scoring defenses in the conference, FHSU at 55.2 points allowed per game and MSSU at 58.2. Guard Sharese Jones of Missouri Southern is the fourth-leading scorer in the conference at 17 points per game and she is among the top 10 in rebounding.

Chelsea Mason continues to lead FHSU in scoring at 13.7 points per game. Jill Faxon is adding 12.6 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 5.1 per game. Beth Bohuslavsky averages 11.6 points per game. Bohuslavsky is just one rebound away from reaching 300 for her career, which would give her over 700 career points, 300 career assists, and 300 career rebounds. She just competed in her 100th game at FHSU on Saturday in the win over Pittsburg State.
