Tigers Use Late Bursts to Gain Season Sweep of Lindenwood

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State used late bursts in each set for a 3-0 win over Lindenwood at home on Saturday (Oct. 24). The Tigers won by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-21 to gain a regular season sweep of Lindenwood. The Tigers moved to 14-11 overall and 5-7 in the MIAA. Lindenwood dropped to 11-11 overall and 3-8 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State produced its highest hitting percentage of the season in conference play at .371. The Tigers hit .333 in the first set, .278 in the second, and a whopping .516 in the third. Lindenwood still hit fairly well at .213, but the Tigers were overwhelming on their home floor.

Up 23-22 in the first set, FHSU took an early lead in the match with a kill by Megan Anderson and an assisted block by Anderson and Sydney Dixon. In the second, the Tigers went on a four-point run after a 21-21 tie. Dixon and Rebekah Spainhour came up big in the run, each with a kill and an assisted block together. In the third, FHSU led 21-20 before taking four of the final five points of the set. Spainhour had two kills in the final push for the Tigers.

Spainhour, Crystal Whitten, and Mallory Flagor all tied with a team-high 10 kills. Spainhour hit .474 in the match and had a team-best four blocks. Whitten notched a double-double with a team-high 13 digs. Hannah Wagy had 40 assists and Azlyn Cassaday and Kailey Klibbe each had 10 digs.

Alex Dahlstrom led Lindenwood with 10 kills, hitting .320 for the match. Allyson Clancy had 35 assists and Anna Reichert produced 15 digs.

The Tigers hits the road early next week on Tuesday (Oct. 27) for a non-conference triangular at Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers play Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma-Panhandle State. FHSU returns to conference play on the weekend at Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist.
