FHSU Women Take Third at Tiger Open

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s cross country team took third at their home meet, the FHSU Tiger Open, held on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Sand Plum Nature Trail just outside of Victoria, Kan. Chelsea Jackson led the way by finishing 13th individually in the Gold Division, which consisted of all NCAA Division II competition.

The Tigers were third out of 13 teams in the Gold Division. Nationally ranked teams Western State (43 points) and Adams State (46 points) ran away with a first and second place, accounting for seven of the top 10 runners in the race. Alicja Konieczek of Western State won the 5K race in a time of 17:39. Both teams are in the top 10 of the latest USTFCCCA Division II Poll. The Tigers did defeat CSU-Pueblo, a team receiving votes in the latest poll. CSU-Pueblo finished fourth as a team.

Jackson led the Tigers in 18:31 while Micki Krzesinski was close behind at 18:36, finishing 15th. Sophie Dalmasso took 17th in 18:37 to give FHSU three top 20 finishers. Shea Bonine was just outside the top 20 in 21st, running 18:43, while Keanu Bradley rounded out the scorers for FHSU at 19:41 in 53rd overall.

The Tigers now gear up for the MIAA Championships in two weeks, also at Sand Plum Nature Trail. FHSU hosts the conference championship this year on Saturday, October 24.
