Volleyball Takes On No. 16 Ranked Lopers Tonight in Kearney

FHSU Sports Information Department

Fort Hays State heads to Kearney, Neb., on Tuesday (Oct. 6) for another MIAA match with 16th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, starting at 7 pm. The Tigers look to pull even with the Lopers in the MIAA standings as FHSU enters at 2-3 in the conference and UNK is 3-2. Live stats, video, and audio are available for the match.

The Tigers (10-7 overall) look to snap a 19-match losing streak to Nebraska-Kearney (13-4 overall), a team they have not defeated since 2003. UNK took the first meeting of the season a couple of weeks ago in Hays by a count of 3-1. FHSU won the first set before UNK reeled off three sets in a row to continue its win streak in the series. Fort Hays State already ended one 19-match losing streak earlier this season with a win at No. 7 ranked Washburn by a count of 3-0.

The Tigers gave the Lopers a scare in Kearney last year when the Lopers were ranked No. 4 in the nation. UNK won the match 3-2, so the Tigers have been showing signs that they are ready to break through against one of the nation’s top programs for years.

Crystal Whitten has 10 double-doubles in the 17 matches played by FHSU so far this season. She leads the team in kills with 208 and digs with 222. Mallory Flagor has 195 kills and Rebekah Spainhour has 138. Hannah Wagy is averaging 10.1 assists per set, while Kailey Klibbe is averaging 3.88 per set.
