Tiger look to snap skid in weekend conference series at NWMSU

Fort Hays State baseball looks to snap its losing skid in a four-game conference series this weekend at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo. The series begins Friday at 2 p.m. FHSU enters at 3-14, 3-9 in the MIAA, while NWMSU enters at 9-11, 6-6 in the MIAA.

The Tigers are looking to snap a 10-game losing streak, that started back on March 7 at Nebraska-Kearney. In the streak, the Tigers have not held their opponent to less than seven runs in all 10 of the games. The Tigers will be looking to push their way back into the middle of the pack in the MIAA standings, currently tied for 10th place.

The Bearcats currently sit in a tie for seventh in the conference standings. NWMSU has won three of its last five games, splitting a four-game series with Nebraska-Kearney last weekend and picking up a non-conference win over Quincy earlier in the week. All five of those contests occurred in Maryville.

The Tigers are hitting .279 as a team right now, led by Austin Unrein with a .386 average. Unrein has seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI on the year so far. FHSU has surrendered five or less runs in just four games this year, with two of those resulting in wins. The Bearcats are also hitting .279 as a team. Both FHSU and NWMSU have struggled with pitching, FHSU with a team ERA of 8.93 and NWMSU with a team ERA of 6.63.

After Friday’s game at 2 p.m., the teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday at 12 p.m.
