MIAA Tournament: game analysis

CD DeSalvo:
Welcome in to Municipal Auditorium right here in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The first game of the MIAA tournament just got over. Northwest Missouri State beats Washburn 71 to 61 and what a welcome to the MIAA tournament moment for freshman Justin Pitts.

Garrett Sager:
Yeah. You’re exactly right. Twenty five points. It’s his second most points scored in his career as a Bearcat. The most against MIAA opponents. He was on fire with 17 points in the first half. Like I said he finished with 25.

Aaron Wondra:
Yeah. He was all over the place today. He was shooting threes. He was getting his lay ups. He was making his own baskets for himself. Obviously all the other Bearcats were there as well but it was a really good Justin Pitt show today.

Garrett:
Another big thing Kyle Wiggins only finished with 5 points. Only 7 points between Kyle Wiggins and Alex North. They really shut down their two top players in that game for Washburn.

Aaron:
You saw Kyle Wiggins stall out there. That’s just kind of how his day was. He wasn’t scoring. He was getting some dumb fouls early on and ended up fouling out.

CD:
Again Northwest Missouri State, the one seed beats the 8th seed in Washburn, 71 to 61. Stay with us through the MIAA tournament. We’ll keep you posted.

Enjoy the games.

CD Desalvo:
Welcome back into Municipal Auditorium in the heart of downtown Kansas City. First game just got over. Next game is up. 4 versus the 5, Lindenwood versus Pitt State. Guys, Lindenwood comes in at 17 and 11. Pitt State 17 and 11 as well. This is probably going to be a really good game.

Garrett Sager:
It’s probably going to be the best game that we have here on day one. You have the three point shooting at Lindenwood and the good three point defense of Pittsburgh State.

Aaron Wondra:
Yeah. Pittsburgh State, their defense I feel like is going to probably shut down Lindenwood’s big three point shooters today. Lindenwood has a really good three point shot. We got four people in 40% range of three pointers, but I really think PSU is going be able to shut that down.

Garrett:
That’s the key match [up 00:00:51]. It’s the perimeter shooters that Lindenwood has. Thirteen times this year they’ve made nine or more three pointers. It’s that three point defense that Pittsburgh State has, opponents averaging only 35% a game shooting three ball against the gorillas.

CD:
All that being said, who moves on to play Northwest Missouri State?

Garrett:
It’s got to be Lindenwood. They’re going to have that three ball going. They’re going to ball out, three point shot. They made three 13 threes against Pittsburgh State in Pittsburgh. It’s got to be the Lions.

Aaron:
I’m going the opposite way. Gorillas’ defense is way too strong for this Lindenwood three point. Go PSU.

CD:
I’m going Lindenwood as well. I think they’re going to be hot tonight. I think they’re going to be shooting the three very well. I don’t think Pitt State is going to be able to stop it and they’re going to get down early. I think Lindenwood wins this game.

Garrett:
One of us is going to have bragging rights at the end of this game.

Aaron:
Somebody. It’s going to be me.

CD:
Enjoy the game. It’s the 5 versus the [fourth seed 00:01:40] right here in Kansas City.

CD DeSalvo:
Good afternoon and welcome back inside Municipal Auditorium right here in the heart of downtown Kansas City. The 5 and 4 game just got over. Pitt State wins so they will move on to play Northwest Missouri. Lindenwood only hit 8 threes. They needed the magical number of 9 but they didn’t get it.

Garrett Sager:
Yeah. They were one off. If one more made three it wouldn’t have made a difference in this game. They lose 74 to 55. We talked about it. They live and die by the three pointer. [Eight or 00:00:29] 24, they died by the three pointer here today.

Aaron Wondra:
Yeah. The defense was there. They were super aggressive. Both teams were aggressive. A lot of contact going on today. You can’t really say much more than that for the defensive play. Lindenwood just couldn’t hit their threes today.

Garrett:
I just think from the get-go though, personally Pitt State just came out more aggressive, they came out more hungry in this game. They looked more ready to go than this Lindenwood Lion team. Lindenwood came in, [inaudible 00:00:55] they had the extra week off. Maybe that playing game gave Pittsburgh State more assertiveness to come into this game.

Aaron:
Definitely had more momentum having that playing game like you just said. Maybe that was the factor there. We will have to see what Pitt does here for the rest of the tournament.

CD:
Again the Gorillas defeat Lindenwood here in Kansas City, 74 to 55. Pitt State will now move on and play Northwest Missouri. We’re going to send it downstairs now to the post-game press conferences.

Sound Off!
