Experience Christmas past at historic Fort Hays

Next weekend the Fort Hays State Historic Site is set to give visitors a slightly different look at Christmas by showing what the holiday looked liked during the time Fort Hays was operational, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The event will show “all of the Christmas festivities the soldiers were able to enjoy while serving at Fort Hays,” according to the Kansas State Historical Society, the organization that oversees Fort Hays.

“Visitors can enjoy the officers’ homes decorated in the Victorian style, candlelit walkways, a model train exhibit, horse-drawn wagon rides, and a live performance of Christmas carols. Father Christmas will greet children,” according to the KSHS.

Fort Hays is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, excluding most state holidays. Pricing for admission is $5 adults, $1 students, with Kansas Historical Foundation members and children five and under admitted free.

For more information about the event or Fort Hays call 785 625 6812 or visit their website.
