Science Cafe set to blow students away

gradydixonP. Grady Dixon, chair and associate professor of geosciences at Fort Hays State University, will present “Hail and Dear and Answers to Your Questions About Storm Chasing” as a part of the next Science Cafe beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Gella’s Diner and Lb. Brewing Co., 117 E. 11th Street.

I love talking about weather of any kind, and I think it is always relevant and worth discussing,” Dixon said. “I am participating because I like the idea of Science Cafe, and I enjoy talking about weather.”

Prior to joining the FHSU faculty this fall, Dixon was a nationally recognized meteorologist and storm chaser for 17 years

“The presentation will explain why, where, and when I chase severe thunderstorms,” Dixon said. “This will include info about tornado climatology, storm-chase safety and hazards, photos and videos of previous storms that I have observed.”

“I will also talk a bit about the upcoming Storm Chase course to be offered through FHSU next May or June.”

Science Cafe is sponsored by the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute and free and open to the public.
