Diversi-Tea hosts October event

Wednesday in the Memorial Union, the Center for Student Involvement held the October Diversi-Tea.

October is LGBTQIA (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, and asexual) Awareness Month.

The Diversi-Tea program continues to grow in participants and interest according to White.

“This year it’s gotten better. In the past it’s averaged about 45 per tea, this year I’ve been averaging 100 people per tea, so it’s grown exponentially,” White said. “I’ve had people approach me and say, ‘I look forward to this all month.’ So that is really encouraging me on a regular basis.”

White became interested in diversity early in her college career.

“I’ve always been interested in diversity, most of my assistance ships have been in the offices of multicultural affairs and this is a program I got to do when I was in grad school. I love doing it and it’s a way for students to come together over food and fellowship about different cultures they belong to and identify with to share that knowledge with their peers. I like that idea and I’m excited to bring it here.”

November is Native American Awareness Month and the next theme Diversi-Tea topic.

This is White’s third year of involvement with Diversi-Tea, a signature program in CSI where once a month on a Wednesday they celebrate a different heritage with food, drinks, tea, desserts and sweet treats from that culture.
