Community Connections to host a fall festival at Bethesda Place

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, Community Connections will host a fall festival and barbecue at Bethesda Place Tree Farm. The fall festival is funded through the Center for Life Experiences and Fort Hays State University.

Community Connections is an event run by the Center for Life Experiences. The Center for Life Experiences is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to the Hays Community including grief support groups, parenting classes, and family activities among others.  Community Connections is a time for FHSU international students to get away, take a break from studying and connect with each other and other Hays community members.

“I think it’s been about six years since the Center for Life Experiences and Fort Hays State University came together in a partnership to do a program called Community Connections,” said Ann Leiker, executive director of Center for Life Experiences.  “Community Connections brings together the international students who are coming here to Hays, leaving family and friends far from home, and people in the community who perhaps want to learn about different cultures.”

Participants can relax and have a hayrack ride, catapult some pumpkins, and enjoy some other fall activities.  A free meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, and other fall-themed foods will also be provided. You’ll even be able to make traditional s’mores and taste homemade salsa.

Students will meet at 5 p.m. in front of Wiest Hall. The university will provide van travel to students who do not have their own transportation. If you have your own car, take the 183-Bypass Road north, turn left on Fairground Road, travel for about a mile and the third left onto 220 Avenue. The tree farm will be on the ride side, so make sure you watch for the signs.

Should bad weather occur, check the Community Connections Facebook page or KAYS radio, or go to www.cfle.weebly.com.

If you have any questions or if you can provide transportation, please contact Ann at 625-2847 or cfle@ruraltl.net.
