Garrett Sager breaks down Tiger football: Week 5

This weekend Fort Hays State University (3-1, 3-1 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) will play against Washburn University (1-3,1-3 MIAA) in Topeka.

Washburn University comes in on a two game losing streak; a 42-0 loss to Pittsburg State University (3-1,3-1 MIAA) and a 42-21 loss to Missouri Southern State University (2-2, 2-2 MIAA).

The Tigers come in on a three game winning streak including upsetting the formerly eighth ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas 7-6, and giving up less than an average of 10 points a game during the win streak.

Washburn is led by quarterback Mitch Buhler, who is fifth in passing in the MIAA. The Ichabods established running this season with nine different ball carriers. Running back Vershon Moore leads the eighth ranked rushing attack with 301 yards and has the team’s lone rushing score on the season.

The FHSU defense is one of the best rush defenses in the MIAA, allowing just over 116 yards per game, but only 80 yards in the last three games. They have not surrendered a rushing touchdown since week one. The front line of the Tigers leads the MIAA in sacks with 10 sacks through four games.

The Ichabods gave up 384 yards a game with 193 yards a game coming on the ground, which bodes well for the Tigers’ offense since it averages 141 yards on the ground a game. FHSU’s offense is averaging 253 yards a game.

Prediction: FHSU 20 WU 0
