Hays Public Library hosts second run for reading

Last Saturday, the Hays Public Library’s second annual Run for Reading took place in Downtown Hays.

Participants ran or walked over the weekend in the 2nd annual Run for Reading, a one mile and 5k run/walk that occurred on Saturday. The race began and finished in front of the Hays Public Library in Downtown Hays.

About 50 participants registered to partake in the event beforehand, and hopes were high for a good turnout of participants who would register on the day of the event. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities were encouraged to come out. Dogs were welcome at the event as well.

The event began last year as a project for the 2013 Leadership Hays Class at Hays High School.

“The race benefits the Ellis County Dolly Parton Library, which provides one book a month to every child who joins the program until they are five years old,” said Dana Stanton, the Early Childhood grant coordinator for USD 489. “This event greatly benefits early childhood learning.”
