More than 1,500 Hays area residents to attend 5th annual community block party

More than 1500 Hays area residents are expected to attend CrossPoint’s 5th annual free community block party from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Municipal Park.

CrossPoint is a multi-site church with 11 facilities across Kansas including Concordia, Hutchinson, Kingman, Manhattan, Salina, Sterling and Wakeeney.

“The block party gives our church an opportunity to give back to the community,” said Micah Sanderson, CrossPoint campus pastor. “Part of the heart of CrossPoint is the belief of tithing back to the community. The Bible talks about tithing ten percent of what we have been given and this is our big event every year to do that.”

Participants will have a chance to win something from a wide variety of prizes including a mystery grand prize given away at 7 p.m. Several local businesses have donated food and door prizes.

“We have some awesome prizes such as gift cards for many local restaurants, Wal-Mart gift cards, Dillons’ gift cards, tons of stuff for kids and so much more for every one of every age,” Sanderson said. “There will be a junk food walk and five inflatable bounce houses for the kids. You will be able to see the Hays Fire Dept. fire safe house and check out the pace truck from Teel’s trucks to name just a few things.”

The block party is completely free and open to all ages.
